Fruitmart
CFINE purchased the Fruitmart in November 2010 with the contribution of £25,000 from Aberdeenshire Fairer Scotland.
The Fruitmart in Longside provides supported employment for 17 adults with learning disabilities and offers the local community fresh products at affordable prices. It has become CFINE’s operational base in the north-east.
CFINE's Chief Executive, Dave Simmers says: “Longside is a small community, like so many in rural Aberdeenshire, which badly needs local shops to remain open."
Social Firms Scotland have also supported the acquisition and the Chief executive, Pauline Graham commented:
“This deal epitomises the benefits of the Acquiring Business for Good programme. CFINE has acquired a profitable business and experienced staff in a new location and the local community has kept a business which provides much needed services and employment for a variety of staff, including those with severe disadvantages.”
As part of the Fruitmart’s re-launch, the property was given a make-over by Aberdeen Foyer’s Princes Trust team. There are also plans to create a cafe at the outlet which will provide a community hub for local residents and groups in addition to opening up new training opportunities for the employees.
