Cook at the Nook

Join our free cooking classes to improve your skills!

We established the Cook at the Nook training kitchen in 2016 to create a community space where you can master cooking a variety of budget-friendly meals. Cooking is a vital life skill, and we firmly believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn how to cook delicious, affordable and nutritious meals.

The kitchen has 8 workstations, and it is fully equipped with cooking appliances. You can attend free sessions that are held by trained cooking instructors who can help you improve your cooking skills and learn new recipes.

What will you learn:

  • Basic cooking skills
  • Basic knife skills
  • Food safety
  • Healthy-eating tips and tricks

The types of cooking classes that are available to you:

  • Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food cooking programme
  • Cooking on a budget course
  • Confidence to cook course

… and many other exciting programmes!

About Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food Programme

We partnered up with Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food in Spring 2021 to bring you a fantastic programme that is aimed to get our community to start cooking again. We are proud to be the first Scottish organisation to deliver this programme and the exclusive host of the Ministry of Food in the Northeast of Scotland.

Katherine Hale, Food Education Manager at Jamie Oliver Group, said:

“Once you know how to cook, you have control over your health and the health of your family. This past year has shown all of us how important eating well is and sharing our skills with those who can make a difference to hundreds of others is an incredibly powerful thing”

What else can you get as part of the cooking programme

At CFINE, we have a range of different services available to help you get through the challenges that you are facing. Although cooking and healthy eating is a fantastic start, we can also help you access low-cost, nutritious food, benefit advice, tips on improving your household finances and skills training. These are; however, optional and you can decide if you’d like to access these other services.
