Skills Development

The Fruit Mart

The Fruit Mart, located at 19 Skelton Street Peterhead, sells fresh produce and provides adults with learning difficulties with supported training and skills development.

Areas of focus

1. Business Enterprise

We sell fruit, vegetables, and other produce to individuals, businesses, and sheltered housing complexes in Peterhead. These are sold from our shop and delivered by our drivers. All profits from sales are reinvested in CFINE's charitable activities.

2. Community Food Pantry

The Fruit Mart's pantry offers affordable produce on a membership model. Members are able to ‘shop’ from a range of every day essentials. This model has proved effective in reducing stigma and maximising household budgets.

3. Emergency Food

The Fruit Mart works closely with the Trussel Trust Foodbank in Peterhead, to ensure that all requests for emergency food are met in Peterhead.

The Fruit Mart supports trainees with learning disabilities on a weekly basis in order to run these services. Some trainees attend for 1 session per week and others for up to 4 full sessions per week. All trainees have varying levels of learning disability, and we aim to ensure that training is person-centred.

We encourage independent attendance however if a trainee requires additional support, they will be accompanied by a key worker. The project supports trainees to gain job experience, build their CV, connect to a social and supportive community, and to develop the following skills:

  • Customer Service
  • Assisting with Deliveries
  • Assisting with Pantry Development
  • Cash Handling
  • Packaging Orders
  • Quality Control
  • IT Skills training
