CFINE are delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for the Living Hours Award and the Local Champion Award, at the Living Wage Scotland Awards 2024! CEO, Fiona Rae stated that “Fair work is at the heart of CFINE’s approach, and so it’s great to have this recognition.”
The Living Hours Award
CFINE recently became one of the first accredited Living Hours organisations in Aberdeen. The Living Hours campaign is run by the Living Wage Foundation and the standard calls on employers to provide the right to:
- Decent notice periods for shifts: of at least 4 weeks’ notice, with guaranteed payment if shifts are cancelled within this notice period.
- The right to a contract that reflects accurate hours worked.
- A guaranteed minimum of 16 hours a week (unless the worker requests otherwise).
CFINE’s commitment to Living Hours builds upon our existing Living Wage accreditation to provide our staff with the security and stability of hours they need to meet their everyday needs. The standard has been developed to ensure that people have the predictable working patterns and income to better plan their lives.
We understand that not all employers will be in a position to offer their employees Living Hours, but we believe that security of hours and notice periods is important to protecting workers from in-work poverty and would encourage employers to explore the Living Hours web page.

Local Champion Award
CFINE has also been shortlisted for the Local Champion Award. A category designed to recognise the work done by organisations to promote the Real Living Wage (RLW) in their local community.
CFINE has been an accredited RLW employer since 2021 and here are three key reasons for our dedication to the cause:
- Financial Security: By guaranteeing that all staff earn at least the RLW, we provide financial stability and security, which is fundamental to improving quality of life and reducing the risk of in-work poverty among our employees.
- Ethical Employment: Our RLW accreditation underscores our commitment to ethical employment practices. We reject the use of zero-hours contracts and fire and rehire practices, ensuring that our employees enjoy fair and stable working conditions
- Setting a Positive Example: As an RLW employer, we set a positive example within the community, encouraging other organisations to adopt fair wage practices
By prioritising the RLW, we not only support our staff but also reinforce our commitment to building a fairer, more equitable society.

Congratulations to all those shortlisted! We are looking forward to attending the awards ceremony on Wednesday 6th November!
