Congratulations to the winners of Kemnay Academy - YPI Scotland!

A huge well done to the winners of the 2023 YPI final at Kemnay Academy. The team chose CFINE as their charity to represent and worked with our development team to gain some knowledge of what we do at CFINE. The team then made a presentation to their school, with the most voted on presentation winning a £3000 grant for their charity. Isla, Rosemary, Sandi and Molly chose to represent and do their fantastic presentation on CFINE, which then won the vote and the £3000! Thank you from everyone at CFINE for your hard work, this grant will go towards supporting our beneficiaries throughout the rising cost of living.

Reflections from Isla, Rosemary, Sandi and Molly (Kemnay Academy 2023 YPI Winners)

As a team we are Rosemary, Isla, Molly and Sandi. Third year pupils at Kemnay Academy. Through the Youth Philanthropy Initiative, we have worked together to represent CFINE.

For YPI we had to choose a charity that was local to the North East of Scotland and would help people in our community. We chose CFINE because you work in the North East and also there are no other charities we saw that do the same thing as you, we also loved how unique your food pantry and vans are. We also know that you do life saving work to tackle the massive local issue of food poverty. You also do so much more than a simple food bank and we love that you make people feel comfortable and not embarrassed when coming to get help.

In YPI, we first had to pick a charity. Then we had to get in contact with you to see if you would partner with us. We were very grateful for the amount of effort you put in to support us with this YPI project. You went above and beyond with the help you gave us answering all of our questions throughout emails and our call. We then had to create a presentation summing up everything your charity does and how £3000 would help you. We spent many weeks creating this presentation and we also made some leaflets to hopefully increase our chances of winning for you.

We had 2 rounds of presenting. First was against the other 5 groups in our class and we were over the moon when we found out we got through. We were then through to the final round presenting against the other 7 groups from our school to judges from the Wood Foundation. After we had all presented they came in with the cheque and revealed we had won the £3000 for your amazing charity. We were all very happy and proud that we managed to win this for you.

During this process we learned many skills and lessons for life, we improved our presenting skills and learned that because not everyone is as fortunate we shouldn't waste food. We also have learnt that we often take the things we have for granted so we should be more careful with our food usage.

Thank you Rosemary, Isla, Molly and Sandi!
