Veg Cities

CFINE hosts Granite City Good Food, which participated in this year’s a new campaign, called ‘Veg Cities’, introduced by Sustainable Food Cities. The aim of Veg Cities is to increase vegetable consumption through a range of different activities in the city. As the part of this new campaign, CFINE teamed up with the Aberdeen City Council Communities Team to develop the ‘Torry Tasters’ initiative that intends to increase the uptake of school meals and encourage primary school students to try more vegetarian options at the canteen.

Cooking Classes

The first stage of the campaign included initial veg workshops at Tullos and Walker Road Primary Schools and cooking classes in Tullos Primary School. The p4-p7 pupils of Tullos Primary School took part in a six-week cooking course, during which they prepared meals from the school menu:

  • Vegetable Frittata
  • Chicken Korma
  • Baked Bean Lasagne
  • Lentil Soup with Soda Bread
  • Spaghetti Bolognese with Salad
  • Singapore Noodles with Tiffin for dessert

Based on the success of the classes at Tullos Primary School, the project continues at Walker Road Primary School. The sessions have begun on Thursday, 25th April at CFINE’s Cook at the ‘Nook training kitchen. The kids and their guardians had a great time preparing delicious Chicken Korma.

The project is funded by the Aberdeen City Health & Social Care Partnership Healthy Improvement Fund. It is run by CFINE in partnership with the Aberdeen City Council Communities Team, Tullos Primary School and Aberdeen City Council catering team.
