On the 28th September, Macmillan Cancer support held its annual ‘The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ fundraiser.  It is the third year CFINE supported Macmillan with organising a coffee morning in the Cook at the ‘Nook training kitchen to gain funds for people facing cancer.

As a charity, we understand the day to day struggle of relying on donations, therefore we are always keen to support the others. On the other hand, The World’s Biggest Coffee Mornings are fun and exciting to hold, with lots of delicious sweets & treats and a chance to chat over a cuppa’ while helping others.

This year’s event, just like the previous two, was superb! Everyone who prepared something to munch on, including our volunteers and staff, had been planning and discussing the ‘who bakes and what?’ question weeks before the event.  On the 27th September, we gathered to bake together in the ‘Nook kitchen and used about £80 worth of produce we received from FareShare. Fareshare is the biggest charity in the UK tackling food poverty by redistributing perfectly good, in-date food that otherwise would go to waste.

In the end, we baked and collected a great selection; over 20 cakes, brownies, free from goods and savoury snacks. The coffee morning was delivered by 4 people out of the army of our volunteers, who took care of all activities; from the setup, to serving the public for 4 hours! Thanks to their outstanding work and the donors’ generosity, we raised £362 for people facing cancer.

The collaboration of 3 different charities; Macmillan, FareShare and CFINE is a great example of how we, as individuals,  should work together for the common goal of making this world a better place for everyone and everything living in it.
