Saltire 24 is an ultra-race that takes part in Royal Deeside, Scotland, and this year I will be taking part in it along with CFINE’s Development Manager Sam Leys to raise funds for CFINE.
With over 200 people taking part, including groups, solo runners and pairs, Saltire offers a 24 hour run, a 12 hour run, and a 6 hour run.
During the Saltire 24 our team will be taking part in the 24 hours run. The four of us will aim to complete as many laps as we can each in a relay style from 10am on Saturday to 10am on Sunday.
In preparation for Saltire 24 Sam and I took part in the Aberdeen Kiltwalk, along with other members of the CFINE team (read Martin’s Blog post!). This was a great way to get the practice and steps in before Saltire 24. Like many I picked up running back in 2020 during lockdown, having done my best to keep it up, this year I hope to really push myself and attempt my first official 10K next year.

CFINE are delighted to have been selected as Saltire 24’s charity partner, with many individuals signing up in aid of CFINE. With our fantastic corporate supporter Red Wing providing the t-shirts once again to help boost funds for CFINE.

Therefore, with CFINE being the charity partner, it was only apt that when a space opened up, I took it, giving me the opportunity to challenge myself and represent CFINE!
CFINE’s core purpose and aims are to improve health and wellbeing and the environment, tackle poverty and build resilience for and with disadvantaged, vulnerable, low-income individuals, families and communities in North East Scotland.
Support for CFINE, whether it is a food collection at home or at school, raising money through a sponsored activity or donating regularly, goes a long way in ensuring we can continue to maintain our current service provision to meet the rising demand for support. This is particularly important at our food bank, which has been distributing around 450 food parcels each week and in May 2024 we gave out 2070, an increase of 600 compared to April.
