In November 2021 Community Food Initiatives North East (CFINE) launched The Big Christmas Food Appeal campaign in partnership with The Press and Journal, Original 106 FM and the Evening Express.
With the access to emergency food remaining high, along with the reduction in Universal Credit payments and rising energy costs, the Press and Journal got involved in supporting CFINE with their partner organisations to ensure that people did not have to make the choice between eating or heating at Christmas.
CFINE would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported their Christmas campaign whether you collected food for CFINE, donated financially or shared our social media posts, every contribution has been hugely appreciated.
As a result of your support, we are delighted to announce that we received in total 5,590kg of food donations, which is the equivalent of 13,309 meals! These donated tinned and non-perishable food items as well as toiletries and other necessities have been going out in emergency food parcels over the festive period and will continue to throughout 2022.
CFINE also received an incredible total of £23,807 in financial donations as a result of the Christmas campaign, an incredible amount raised! This will go towards maintaining CFINE’s support services and allowing us to continue to provide our beneficiaries with the support they need.
The campaigns success has not only raised awareness to some of the challenges that many individuals and families face within our local and regional communities but because of every donation, financial or food, CFINE is continuing to make a difference to those who need it.
However, despite the festive period being over and the success of the campaign these families and individuals need our help all year round. If you would like to find out more please visit the 'Get Involved' section above to find out how you can support CFINE.
